The renovation of a nineteenth-century farmstead in the foothills of the Beskydy was a deeply personal project for two people who had travelled the world, only to find their true home right here — in the landscape of their childhood. After several years of living in Australia and New Zealand, they had brought back not only a love of nature and authentic materials, but a deep respect for original things and craftsmanship that carry within them story and time.
The brief was to create a cosy family home for a young couple and their infant daughter, Adélka — a place that would be calm, airy, and natural. The interior was also to accommodate the owner's passion for vintage motorcycles and to preserve the character of the original rural building, without unnecessary embellishment.
The primary focus of the renovation was the farmstead's attic space. Since the original structure could not be significantly altered, we chose to let its greatest beauty speak for itself — the authentic timber beams that now run throughout the interior, giving the space its unique rhythm and atmosphere. In combination with large-format gable glazing, oak flooring, and clean white surfaces, a harmonious whole emerged, bridging tradition with a contemporary way of living.
The entire interior is built on a gentle interplay of Scandinavian, industrial, and modern rural styles. Natural timber is complemented by metal, glass, ceramics, and concrete-effect surfaces. A neutral colour palette creates a calm foundation, brought to life by subtle accents in the decorative details, textiles, and individual statement pieces.
The heart of the home is the open living space comprising a kitchen, dining area, and relaxation zone. The interior's centrepiece is not only the central fireplace, but also the generous glazing with views across the Beskydy landscape, which transforms the atmosphere of the entire space throughout the day. Natural light emphasises the grain of the aged timber and the texture of the materials, lending the interior a feeling of lightness and calm.
Great attention was paid to practicality and detail throughout. Integrated storage spaces sensitively follow the geometry of the attic roof, sliding barn doors reference the original character of the farmstead, and the bathroom combines contemporary cleanliness with a gentle rustic accent in the form of decorative tiles and dark contrasting elements.
The result is a timeless home that feels neither contrived nor ostentatious. On the contrary — it creates a feeling of naturalness, warmth, and safety. A place where the history of the building meets contemporary life, and where every detail was crafted with respect for the space, the landscape, and the people who live within it today.
