Some spaces are simply visited. And then there are places whose atmosphere one feels the moment one steps through the door. It was precisely in this spirit that the Centre for Rehabilitation and Integrative Medicine — CRIMED — in Poděbrady came into being: a project whose ambition was not to create an ordinary clinic, but an environment capable of harmonising body and mind even before treatment begins.
From the outset, the investors' brief was very clear. To create a representative and functional healthcare centre that would feel professional, yet simultaneously human, welcoming, and informal. A space in which clients would feel confidence not only in the expert team, but in the environment itself. The interior was not to resemble a conventional polyclinic. On the contrary — the goal was to design a place with positive energy, lightness, and a timeless character.
Movement became the overarching theme of the entire concept. Movement as a symbol of life, of change, of vitality, and of the process of healing itself. This idea is woven throughout the interior — from the organic lines of the reception desk, through the curved architectural elements, to the graphic motifs on the glazed partitions of the individual physiotherapy studios. Gentle strokes reminiscent of a brush moving across canvas metaphorically allude to energy, dynamism, and the natural flow of life.
The interior, spanning more than 650 m², was created through the complete transformation of a former restaurant on the ground floor of a twenty-year-old building. The original layout required substantial reconfiguration to meet the contemporary demands of a modern healthcare clinic — functionally, technically, and aesthetically. At the very heart of the clinic today stands a central reception with an oval form, complemented by natural materials, greenery, and lighting elements that give the space a gently futuristic quality. Radiating naturally from it are the individual consulting rooms, physiotherapy studios, and staff areas.
Great emphasis was placed on connecting the interior with the surrounding spa landscape of Poděbrady. Through large-format glazing, daylight floods the space and views open towards the greenery of the local colonnaded park, allowing the interior to feel airy, calm, and naturally alive. A combination of turquoise and soft salmon tones, together with accents of oak, glass, and natural greenery, then creates a harmonious contrast that supports a positive psychological atmosphere throughout.
The project was also exceptionally demanding from a technical standpoint. The realisation involved entirely new ventilation infrastructure, reconciling floors at differing levels, and meeting the stringent hygiene and operational requirements of a healthcare facility. Even so, we were determined that the finished space should feel neither technical nor cold — but should preserve a lightness, elegant clarity, and a human quality.
The entire process, from initial concept through to final realisation and the grand opening of the clinic, took approximately eight months. It was an intensive period, full of challenges, of searching for connections, and of attention to every detail. All the more rewarding, then, was the response from the investors and from the clients of the centre themselves, who frequently remark that they do not feel as though they are in a conventional healthcare environment — but in a space that calms, inspires, and restores energy.
And that, from the very beginning, was precisely our intention. To create a place where architecture works not merely on a visual level, but has the capacity to positively shape how a person feels.
