There are places that slow you down quite naturally. Places where mornings begin with a view into a snow-covered forest, where days pass to the rhythm of crackling wood in the stove, and where evenings belong to long conversations around a large table. This was exactly what this contemporary mountain cabin in the heart of the Orlické hory — the Eagle Mountains — was meant to be: a refuge for a family and their closest friends, who, between Prague, Pardubice, and the mountains, were searching for their own quiet world.

From the very beginning, it was clear that the aim was neither a conventional rustic log cabin nor a sterile modern interior. The brief pointed towards a space that would respect the mountain environment whilst simultaneously offering the comfort, lightness, and timelessness of contemporary living. The interior therefore works with the natural beauty of solid timber, authentic materials, and a subtly modern attention to detail that refines and elevates the whole.

The heart of the entire cabin is the generous main living room with its statement white tiled stove. It is this piece that sets the tone for the entire space — not only through its visual presence, but through the feeling of warmth, safety, and home it creates around itself. The stove was designed to become the natural centre of gathering. Small steps lead up to it; one can sit on it, rest, or simply listen to the fire crackle on a winter's evening.

The kitchen picks up from here in a soft dove grey with black granite flooring, introducing a gentle contrast and a contemporary note. Solid oak planks, traditional log wall cladding, and furniture in a modernised rustic style create a harmonious foundation that feels authentic without being heavy. The interior was intentionally lightened throughout with a combination of light textiles, fur throws, natural tones, and subtle black metal lighting elements with a gentle industrial accent.

Details play an important role here too. One of them is a laser-engraved motif of forest wildlife on the timber wall in front of which the television — housed within a solid sideboard — elegantly glides into view. It is precisely such moments that give the interior its distinctive character and quiet playfulness, without ever disturbing its calm.

The entrance lobby was conceived with perhaps the most pronounced mountain character of anywhere in the house. Natural travertine paving, solid timber cladding, ceiling beams, a robust bench, and practical storage were all designed to hold their own not only aesthetically, but in the everyday reality of returning from the mountains, the forest, or winter walks. The space feels cosy and authentic, yet also thoroughly functional.

On the upper floor, the interior gradually softens. The bedrooms work with a more subdued palette, softer textures, and a more intimate atmosphere beneath the sloping roof. In the bathrooms, natural stone, decorative patterned tiles, and timber come together to create the feeling of a mountain boutique retreat. The children's rooms were given a more playful yet still refined character, inspired by nature and the surrounding landscape.

The entire project was conceived with an emphasis on emotion, authenticity, and lasting timelessness. The aim was not simply to create a holiday property, but a place the family would return to with genuine pleasure — a space that holds within it the scent of timber, the warmth of a mountain home, and the ease and elegance of contemporary comfort, all rooted in a deep respect for the local landscape.
