When my client, an IT developer, approached me with the brief for a family home in Prague's Modřany district, it was clear from the outset that this project would be about far more than aesthetics. Nestled into a hillside close to Modřanský Háj forest, the house was intended to offer tranquillity and an open sense of space, whilst also creating an impressive yet liveable home for two entrepreneurial men with a genuine eye for detail, architecture, and quality materials.

From our very first meeting, we were searching together for a balance between minimalism and the feeling of a real home. My client envisioned an interior in a contemporary Italian style — clean, timeless, and precisely crafted, yet warm and inviting at the same time. The brief encompassed the design of almost the entire house, with the exception of the study and the guest room, which he wished to complete himself according to his own vision.

The setting itself plays an enormous role here. The house is surrounded by greenery and, thanks to large-format frameless windows, the interior is in constant dialogue with the surrounding landscape. On one side, the calm of the forest filters in; on the other, views of Prague unfold. Working with light, sightlines, and atmosphere was one of the central themes of the entire design.

In terms of materials, I built the interior around a combination of grey marble with delicate white veining, smoked oak, and metallic details in brushed brass. These elements come together to create a harmonious, tone-on-tone composition that reads as elegant without feeling cold. The treatment of lighting was equally important to me — from clean functional scenes through to soft ambient underlighting, which transforms the atmosphere of the home in the evening into something almost intimately gallery-like.

Every part of the interior was designed with a focus on proportion, material continuity, and lasting timelessness. The minimalism here is not austere. On the contrary — it allows the quality of surfaces, precision of detail, and the space itself to speak. The interior was intended to feel calm, quietly confident, and naturally luxurious, without resorting to ostentation of any kind.

The project is currently in the realisation phase, and it is wonderful to watch as the individual layers gradually come together into one harmonious whole — precisely the kind of modern gentleman's home with an atmosphere of calm, light, and understated elegance we envisioned together from the very beginning.
